The ‘Rayat Shikshan Sanstha founded by late Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil is a pioneer undertaking in the rural set-up of Maharashtra with a network of over 675 branches in various districts of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The Sanstha strives for the cause of the poor and downtrodden.

          It was strong desire of Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil to open various educational institutions in the backward areas of Ahmednagar district. Recognizing the mammoth work done by Karmaveer in mass education and influenced by his potential and zeal, the people of Ahmednagar district extended whole hearted support to his endeavor.

         Shri Sadguru Gangageer Maharaj Science, Gautam Arts and Sanjeevani Commerce College, Kopargaon, popularly known as S.S.G.M. college, Kopargaon is a degree college in Maharashtra. It was founded by Rayat Shikshan Sanstha and is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. The college conducts senior as well as, junior degree programs in Arts, Science, and Commerce as well as in BBA. The college is also running YCMOU center since 1992. The college has well equipped laboratories, big playground with equipped gymnasium and good library facility with reading hall. College is having

Ph.D. research center in Chemistry and Commerce.

 

 

History

A great need for a science college at Kopargaon was keenly felt to fulfil the expectations of the rural people of Kopargaon taluka. The people and the sugar factories in Kopargaon taluka rose to the occasion, rendered all possible help and shouldered the responsibility to establish the desired college. Their efforts bore fruit. Their contributions and aspirations took shape as Science College the primitive phase of this college.

            Thus the college was established as 'Science College' in June 1965 and it became fully fledged with the inception of Arts and Commerce streams in June 1971. Now it is a well flourished institution imparting higher education leading to 'Bachelor' and 'Master' degrees in various faculties. It has been renamed as Shri Sadguru Gangageer Maharaj Science, Gautam Arts & Sanjivani Commerce College Kopargaon, from October 2, 1976.

In the late 1950s, the enlightening visit of Padmabhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil to Kopargaon-Shrirampur, the heavily irrigated area of north Ahmednagar District, initiated the great stalwarts like Late Hon. Shankarraoji Kale, Hon. Shankarraoji Kolhe to shoulder the responsibility of the noble work and plant the two branches of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha's K.B.P. high school and Kanya Vidya Mandir in 1959 and 1963 respectively. The sense of educational awareness among the populace masses and the creative zeal of Late Swami Sahajanand Bharati, Late Hon. Shankarraoji Kale, Hon. Shankarraoji Kolhe, Late Chimanlal Mehta, Late Madhavrao Adhav, Late Mhalusheth Avhad, Late. Late Gangadhar Muktaji Gaware (Mama), Late Vishnu Vaze and many well-wishers sincerely felt the crying need of a college in the Kopargaon town. The college was started as a Science College in June-1965. It was renamed after Shri Sadguru Gangageer Maharaj in 1966. For the sake of growth and expansion of the academic front, Arts & Commerce faculties were started from June 1971. The two faculties Arts & Commerce were renamed after the sages Gautam & Sanjeevani respectively.

College at a Glance

The college is committed to uplift the poor and rural students considering constraint shown by the rural students, the college authorities take almost care and make every possible effort for the academic standard of rural students. The college organises proper and moderate extra mural activities to seek all round development of the students. The teacher’s pay individual attentions and keep vigil over, day to day behavior and academic performance of the students. The college authorities establish report with parents or guardians and arrange to keep them well informed from time to time about the performance of their wards.

Location

The College campus stretches over 21 acres of its own land. The campus adjoins the Nagar-Manmad highway. It is situated in the outskirts of Kopargaon town. It is 1 k. m. away from the S. T. Bus stand and 2 k. m. from the railway station.

The college is housed in various spacious building in the campus.             Besides this college gardens, spacious ground with play fields, courts and running track, landscaping with attractive gate add the beauty and glory to the campus.
